Geometry Prerequisite: Algebra I Grade: 9-10-11-12 (Requirement for core 40, and AHD) Credits: Two semesters, two credits (2) Description: Geometry is an elective, which further strengthens a student's algebraic skills. The contents include studies of plane and space geometry, observing data and making conclusions, learning how assumptions, definitions and theorems are used in a deductive system, finding congruencies and similarities of polygons, how to do constructions with straightedge and compass, and as introduction to coordinate geometry on the real coordinate plane. Students are encouraged to use inductive reasoning to reach conclusions and then to think in a logical deductive manner to write arguments which they support with reasons. A student should have an average or above-average grade in the prerequisite, Algebra I. Students can expect to spend a minimum of one-half hour per day outside of class in preparation. |
